Picture the typical little western town on TV - you know, one main street through town with shops of all sorts - the hat maker, the ice cream shop, the hardware store, which incidentally has everything you can imagine, the little café with passersby stopping to chat with friends. Darby is a laid-back area and, yet to this day, you may find a sign on the door of an office or store saying "Gone Fishing" or "Hunting - Be Back Friday". Those incidentally, are major priorities for many Darby residents!

Darby is located along the Bitterroot Mountain Range and is surrounded by streams, lake and rivers filled with a wide range of fish, primarily Brook, Westslope Cutthroat Trout, Rainbow Trout, and Mountain Whitefish.

Darby was a logging town for years, home to five mills at one time but today most people travel to Hamilton or even Missoula for work.

One of the main attractions is the Community Clubhouse, rebuilt entirely by the local community when the original one burned down, it is usually booked solid with everything from St Patty's Day or Valentines Day dances, craft shows, local weddings and much more.

People of Darby are mostly friendly and love to talk about the important things in life such as the big fish that got away or sighting that ten-point buck or chuckling about David Letterman getting a speeding ticket for going over 25 miles an hour through town . . .
